In a heartwarming gesture of support and gratitude, Petty Officer 2nd Class Robert Orr, a Navy Veteran, was handed the keys to his mortgage-free home by the PulteGroup’s Build to Honor organization. The dedication ceremony, held in Whitestown, marked a significant moment in Orr's journey.
Whitestown Council President Dan Patterson expressed the community's sentiment, stating, "We're a community that honors our law enforcement, our firefighters, our veterans, our active service members. We're a community that celebrates you on your best day, and we're there for you on your worst."
Accompanied by the stirring tunes of the Gordon Pipers and a motorcycle escort, Orr was led to his new home in the Bridle Oaks Community. Amidst the excitement, cheers erupted as the crowd eagerly unveiled the 84th home constructed by PulteGroup, located at 6825 Bridle Oaks Ct.
Reflecting on his journey, Orr shared the inspiration behind his decision to serve in the Navy, citing his brother's involvement in the maritime force and the events of 9/11. "So after 9/11 and seeing my brother, I said I got to be next up to join this fight and protect this country…" said Orr. Despite facing a rare service-related medical diagnosis that curtailed his military aspirations, Orr remained grateful for the opportunity to serve. "Putting on that uniform changed my life. I was able to go to other places, change other people's lives, and actually save some lives myself," he recounted.
The ceremony not only marked a new beginning for Orr but also highlighted the unwavering support and appreciation for veterans within the Whitestown community. As Orr steps into his new home, it serves as a symbol of gratitude for his selfless service and sacrifice.
